Meathenge and the flu

Last few weeks been painfully busy taking care of 2 boys that were/are sick. Now my throat is scratchy and starting to feel wierd. Taking tons of vits and liquids, we’ll see how that goes. I’m sure I’ll be fine, what could possibly go wrong?
On a lighter side. Many of you have known for quite some time Meathenge’s comment system hasn’t quite been up to snuff. In fact, it basically junked good comments and I never knew you stopped by. This was especially obvious to Shuna and Kevin. In any case, sister is working on it this very moment. We’re getting there, eh.

Except for Tea’s visit on Sunday for Meathenge’s first Grilling Class, here’s how much I’ve been cooking. See? That’s the last onion I bought. Yes, I will be posting about The Visit, you bet.

  1. The Flu! Yuk. Watch those over the counter meds -they tend to be a bit rough on the kidneys. Rest and plenty of fluids. My granny used to keep a jar of whiskey with crused up peppermint candy in it. That was the over the counter med that I had in childhood. It just made me sleep -and kept me out of granny’s hair. No rough side effects if given in the proper dosage……

  2. Glad you splained about the missing comments. I was afraid it was something I said!
Like Greg’s prescription. Try this if you want something during the day: pounded fresh ginger slices — steep in hot-to-boiling water until it is strongly gingery (taste). Add a heaping teaspoon of brown sugar per cup. Soothing, and it sweetens the spirit. If you just want to go after that bug with a vengeance, do the same thing with ginger, adding some slivers of garlic and a hot chile. Whew — makes you sweat and cuss and feel better.

  3. Another variation of the ginger tea is to make it using as much fresh-grated ginger, lemon juice and cayenne pepper as you can stand; add a little honey and fill the cup with hot (not quite boiling) water. Good, good stuff. BTW, this is a good time to stay away from processed foods and sugars that will weaken your immune system. Hope you feel better soon.

  4. So sorry to hear that my meat master is down with the flu! I vote for the honey, ginger, lemon juice and hot water cure. Or my favorite Chinese chicken soup–let me know if you need a delivery. If you’re the meat angel, I can be the soup angel.

  5. That must have been some grilling class dude, ‘spesh-ly if your being offered not just soup, or chicken soup mind you, but CHI-NESE chicken soup delivered by an angel………come on MAN the suspense is killing me! Post it! We want more pics!
I mean, take care. Yeah, that ginger thing sounds good, do that. And when you feel better, we’ll all be ready to hear a synopsis of meat 1A.
No saturday market for me, catch you next week…..

  6. Hope you all get better, we’ve all been sick for weeks now and that compounded by the snow, ice and more snow has been brutal. Sickness is bad. Go grill a nice steak and take care of yourselves.

  7. Get better soon! Glad you said something about the comments.I thought I was such a spaz that my comments didn’t make it.

  8. Oh dear oh dear, there is a bug going on around the world. A lot of people here are catching it as well. I know. I’m one of them. Take cares,Guy.
May the meat be with you. (Corny!)

  9. Hi!
Thank you everyone, feeling a little better today for sure.
But then I was putting in a new trashbag in the kitchen trash container and my back went out. Cain’t walk upright for nothin. I spose it comes in waves, eh?

  10. Back trouble is never a good or easy thing to deal with. I have it from time to time. When it hits it really hits. I find those back relief heat pads/patches very useful as well as a dose of Doans. My heart goes out to you. Rest up. Spring is around the corner and here in Georgia I look forward to some spring/summer grilling experiences. Be well, take care and let us know how you are.
