Bud’s Custom Meats in Penngrove California

Ya know those friends that always show up when you’re feeling down? The pals that know just what to say and when to say it? Yeah well, our fridge has been down for 10 days and it looks as though it’ll be down for another 10 before the compressor is replaced. I’ve been awfully depressed about it, mostly because Amana/Maytag are assfucks and don’t have the staff to repair my 3 year old 1200 dollar fridge in any less time than 3 weeks. Chilebrown has kept his ear piqued and knew it was time for a meat adventure, he has the week off. So off to Bud’s Custom Meats he and his wife Ms. Goofy flew.
Wanna see what they found today?

The following article was written by Chilebrown and the photographs are his as well.

MmMmMmooooooooo !!!

Bud’s Custom Meats is a new destination for the ‘Chilebrown’ family. Where else you can you get Buffalo hamburger, Wild Boar Tenderloins and ‘Killer Ribeyes’. Bud’s is a small place set in a rural setting. It is about 5 minutes off of Highway 101 in Penngrove, California. If you drive too fast you will pass Bud’s right by. Once you make the turn onto the driveway you will see farm animals grazing. You wonder if that might be the next steak? No worries, because once you walk into Bud’s it is just a counter and a couple of freezers and some shelves with marinades and rubs.

You would not believe the selection that is there. I will have to return several times to sample the various meats. Bud’s has a big selection of beef, they are all individually shrink wrapped. We picked up a couple of Rib-Eyes (10.99/pd). They have “Kobe” style Rib Eyes from Oregon (24.99/pd.). Bud’s smokes, bacon, pork chops, hams turkeys and a whole lot of other stuff. Their Tri-tips are marinated in a ‘bloody mary sauce. They make their own sausage, there are 12 different varieties. Half of the sausages come smoked.

Venison, Elk, Bear, Ostrich, and Wild Boar. We bought some Buffalo hamburger. The owner ‘Matt’ guided us through this menagerie of meats. He was very helpful and offered suggestions on smoking to me. He was more than glad to give a tour. You could tell there was a lot of pride in this establishment.
One last thing I need to mention. The prices are very reasonable. We cannot buy products like this in the Bay Area for this price and quality period !!!
Peace, Paul

  1. This sounds wonderful. Cooking for one limits my experience with this sort of place, but I may be able to rassle my daugter into going in with me on some meats.
By the way, Biggles, re: our recent conversation about ‘cue — there’s a new place in San Rafael (The Flying Pig Diner) with a monster smoker and a chef who says his Georgia girlfriend claims his greens are better than her grannie’s. He asked me to come by to eat and talk this week. Will report back. Maybe this is the place where the smoked meat and the sauce will have equal appeal.
    Good luck with the fridge.

  2. Hey Kudzu,
Yes, you most certainly need to go have a look at Bud’s. I need to go soon as well, along with a trip back to Dittmer’s.
Please report back about the BBQ Joint. I wish I could go with you. Just to make sure you’re safe, ya know. I got your back.

  3. Biggles, what a bummer you’re still without your “new” refrigerator. When mine gave up the ghost some years ago, Cranky and I were simply too mentally disabled to deal with it, so we bought a dorm-sized refrigerator until we could figure out what to do! What feebs.

  4. Nice trip, Chile!
Biggles, my brother’s fridge broke while he was out of town. He called and couldn’t get anyone to come out, but when his wife called and sobbed on the phone they had someone out the next day. I’m just sayin’…

  5. Yeah, Biggles went out and bought the dorm-sized fridge, and it’s in the garage. For every meal, we now make several trips out to the garage for ingredients and several more trips to put things away afterwards. We’re PISSED, and we want our money’s worth outta that damn “new” refrigerator. Hrumff.
Don’t buy Amana appliances!!! Maytag bought ’em out, and it’s their service that is giving us the run around and long delays, so avoid them, too. Grrrrrowl.

  6. Yeah that sucks your ice box is melting. I will help if I can. The “Dorm Size” is kool if your in a dorm. You need a “MEAT LOCKER’. I know that “Meathenges” refrigerator in the garage is only holding beer. Mamma’s small refrigerator is proably holding eggs, milk and juice. Some stuff that is not in our refrigerator. Let us know it you want us to refrigerate some beer, eggs, milk, and more beer?

  7. Amana Sucks! and the ‘Maytag Man” has issues. I think that we should all start a campaign to eat a lot of Meat. Chilebrown!

  8. i was wondering if you can ship meat to reno nevada? please email me and let me know. i was in petaluma and got some tri-tip from you and it was the best i ever had. please let me know.

  9. I have a neighbor that gets a fresh lamb from you every year and we roast it on a spit. Could you give me an estimate on price for a lamb. Also looking for a pig 30 to 40lbs whole to put on a spit.

  10. i purchased a whole pheasent recently and was planning to fix it for dinner tonight–what fresh seasonings should i buy on my way home to complement it well?

  11. Thanks so very much for your helpful service, You and your staff made our wedding reception a major hit! The ten Tri-tips we received from you were absolutely delicious. I’ve had many people ask how we seasoned the meat. I tell them, “I wish I could take credit but they were a product of Buds Meats. As I’m sure you know the pressures of a wedding and reception, We ordered and you delivered. We appreciate it very much and look forward to doing business again!!!! Very Satisfied Customer!!!! Thanks Matt!!
