Bubba’s Barbecue – Jackson Wyoming

Another fine restaurant review from our very own Joe Bob in Denver.

Jackson, Wyoming.
Bubba’s Barbeque.
This was the only barbecue joint I could find in Jackson, Wyoming. So of
course we had to go. The place was jammed with locals and tourists in a lame
attempt at a Wild West facade. The wait staff had these agonized looks on their
faces as they grappled the masses into place….also perhaps from serving the
horrid excuse for food to all of us. I had ribs and chicken with corn and beans.
Beans were awful….corn was cooked early that morning maybe….chicken was ok. The ribs were an odd grey color and tasted as if they were cooked a couple of days ago. Nothing was hot. The whole meal was a listless uninspired mess. The iced tea was even tragic. I believe there is no way to serve anything approaching decent food in such a large volume. Avoid Bubba’s like a stubbed toe.

And….when in Wyoming don’t forget to hit the Kum and Go for gas etc.

Also grab a cold Schlitz at Paul and June’s joint on way to Jackson.

  1. YOU REALLY DON’T HAVE GOOD TASTE IF YOU THOUGHT BUBBA’S WASN’T GOOD. I EAT BARBEQUE ALL THE TIME AND IT WAS EXCELLENT. YOU MUST HAVE HIT IT ON AN OFF DAY BUT AS GOOD AS THE FOOD WAS WHEN WE WERE THERE I CAN’T SEE THEM HAVING A BAD DAY. ALL I CAN THINK IS THAT YOU ARE SOME KIND OF A NUT JOB WITH A VERY BAD ATTITUDE. THE TEA WAS REALLY GOOD.

  2. I agree with J & D Mee, I go to Jackson and eat at Bubba’s several times in the summer and I enjoy their food. The tea has always been good whenever I go there and it is always refreshing from walking around the town the whole day. Bubba’s is an excellent expirience and everyone should try it. (And by the way, there are about 3 or 4 other BBQ places to eat at in Jackson, but Bubba’s is one of the best.)

  3. Well, as we all know restaurants do have off days. Also keep in mind we’re pretty picky about our barbecue. I’m MORE than willing to take an article from either one of you and post a follow up, giving you credit of course!

  4. We have been to Bubba’s and it is the best BBQ place we have ever been. We live in Montana and have went to Jackson Hole ever year for the past 13 years and Bubba’s is the only place we eat. I wish we had a Bubba’s In Montana.

  5. We also eat at Bubba’s everytime we go to Jackson Hole. My family has been making the trip since I was 10, I am now 35. It was my personal favorite the first time and still is. I plan to bring my son and nephew this summer to carry on the tradition. Thanks for all the good meals and good service. See you this summer.

  6. My wife, myself, our daughter and three teenage grandsons were in Jackson for five days in August of this year. We ate at Bubba’s twice and loved it both times. As a matter of fact we purchased a bottle of their Jalapeno BBQ sauce. We just re-ordered several more bottles.
They must be doing something right, both nights, the place was jam-packed.

  7. THAT GUY IS CRAZY! WE’VE EATEN AT BUBBA’S EVERYTIME WE GO TO JACKSON – WHICH IS EVERY OCTOBER FOR THE LAST 5 YEARS – AND WE LOVE IT. THE FOOD IS FRESH, HOT AND DELICIOUS. GUESS THIS GUY JUST DOESN’T KNOW WHAT GOOD BBQ IS AND I SHOULD KNOW – I’M FROM TENNESSEE WHERE PIT BBQ IS A STAPLE. TRY IT AGAIN!!!

  8. We LOVE Bubba’s! We always plan our trip through Jackson OR Cody Wyoming, just so we can hit the best BBQ in the West! Does anyone know if Bubba’s has a website? I’d love to know of more locations!

  9. I would like to know where I can buy Bubba’s BBQ sauce in Jackson or Cody. Can’t find an email address.

  10. We did not eat BBQ but had Breakfast twice and it was awsome especally BUBBS’BISQUITS.

  11. I’m from Kansas City & I’ve had my share of good, bad & great BBQ. Bubba’s BBQ would be right at home at ANY of KC’s World Famous BBQ competitions!!! I’d rank them 5 stars out of 5 stars. So what if the decor isn’t that great; You go for the BBQ. & Schlitz beer – Get a clue, It’s not called “shitz” for nothing. Try Moose Drool ESB.

  12. I’m from Louisiana and i know BBQ and bubbas was the best BBQ i ever ate the meat was never dry and none of my food was cold there biscuits are humongous my paw paw couldn’t even eat it all and I only ate half my pancake which was the size of three pancakes loll!!!

  13. Does Bubba’s still sell coffee cups? Lost my 15 year old in a recent move and my java ain’t been the same since.
    Help!
    Thanks.

  14. Yes they do still sell coffee cups because I had to have one also. Being from Oklahoma and eating from some of the best BBQ joints in Oklahoma (Mac’s BBQ, My Place, Bad Brad’s, Head Country, Watt’ BBQ, Wildhorse BBQ,Runt’s BBQ and many others). We had the ribs I would rank them right up there if not better than I have ever ate. While we were there we noticed they served breakfast also. The next day we woke up to the best and by far the biggest order of Biscuits and Gravy I have ever ate. I had ordered the Pancakes also not knowing that I would be over my head to eat them all. I would recommend all to go by and try Bubba’s. Keep doing what you are doing. I’LL BE BACK!

  15. Dr. Biggles, I am a native from Wyoming and have eaten at Bubbas numerous times. Never once have I had a bad experience. They’re food is very good! I’ve tried most items from the menu and it was all cooked just right. Guess some people find something to complain about with everything. By the way, Dr. of what?

  16. Hey Becky,
Doctor of whiny butt? If you take a look at the top of the post, it was a friend of mine that tasted their food, not me. He’s a native Texan, that should pretty much answer that. He goes back to Texas every year to travel around and hit every BBQ joint he see’s or reads about. So, personally have no input on the matter.

  17. I love Bubba’s. The first Bubba’s was actually in eastern Oregon. I have eaten at the one int Jackson Hole, WY a couple of time. I agree with you that the staff is very harried and there is an incredible crowd there most of the time. But I disagree with you about the food. Bubba’s makes good barbeque. I used to eat at the one in Saratoga, WY all the time before it closed. Loved it. There used to be one in Greely, CO too – not sure if it is still there.

  18. I have lived in Jackson Hole for nearly ten years, and eat at Bubba’s all the time. I have never had a bad experience, and can promise you that Bubba’s is one of the best values in the valley…especially for breakfast(workingman’s special), and when you factor in that its BYOB. I can’t say its the best bbq, because i’m originally from eastern north carolina, and prefer vinegar based bbq sauce. but i can tell you i always enjoy bubba’s, and probably eat there more than any other restaurant in the valley.

  19. I am actually dying for the baked bean recipe for Bubba’s. Ever since our vacation ended, those baked beans are all I can think about…we had a terrific experience and the food from the drinks to the baby back ribs to the pulled pork sandwiches were incredible. The corn I’ll agree, not so much, but everything else we had was terrific! If anyone has that bean recipe I sure would love to have it.

  20. Dude, you just ordered the wrong thing and went at the wrong time! I think the best time to go is right before the big lunch and dinner crowds arrive. I love the steak sandwich with grilled onion and cheese. And the wings! They are to die for.

  21. I ate here for the first time about 2 weeks ago. I’ve lived nearby Jackson for 6 years now and never stopped at Bubba’s in Jackson. No, the food wasn’t hot.. nor were the portions impressive. The wait staff weren’t happy looking folk either. It was just my husband and I at our table.. so they had no excuse for bringing cooled food. There were people in the restraunt but not packed. I just had turkey.. it was nice and moist.. just not impressive. The potato salad and baked beans are the best I’ve ever had though (tater salad needs salt added but underlying taste is the best I’ve had.. not tart with vinegar). My husband drives truck and we are all over the country trying barbeque joinst.. Bill Millers in Texas is one of the worst for sides. Their meat it good.. just don’t bother with sides. And I’ve never had worse coffee.
Off topic of Barbeque.. but Erma’s Hotel in Cody, Wyoming has the best Prime Rib I’ve ever had.. didn’t try the sides because the Prime Rib was on all you can eat buffet and not too pricey either. The Big Texan Steakhouse was ok.. the primerib was cooked to order BUT it just didn’t have the natural flavors Erma’s primerib had.

  22. I LOVE BUBAS!!!! In fact, i am eating there tonight with my family! We wait all year for our ski trip so we can eat at Bubas! It is possibly the BEST bbq!!!
