Radio Meat

Here we see an all week long marinated beef ball-tip roast sliced and ready. The marinade is a teriyaki, the knife and old carbon slicer and the meat was tender tender tender.

Shepherd’s Pie and WINE

Oh my. That right there is comfort food. I know many of you may be experiencing a heat wave, but it hasn’t gotten above 63 degrees here for quite some time. And since our very own potatoes, that we grew, need to be used up in a variety of fashions, Shepherds Pie seemed an obvious choice. In the past, I’ve had it with ground beef, but this time my wife made it with a beef stew. Chuck roast, carrots and onions and bay leaf simmered for HOURS until insanely juicy and wonderful. Then popped it into the fridge for later. Later happened, warm the meat fixins a bit to loosen the juices, strain out the juices and reduce. Pour the reduced gravy and meat into a pie dish, smoosh left over mashed taters over all. Brush with melted butter and cook at 350 for an hour or so. We served it with The Bears Lair Cabernet 2000. I took pictures, they’ll be ready some time next week …

Yummy Lamb Stew

Another fine crock pot meal put together by Mama. Browned lamb then simmered all night with middle eastern spices (and a few vegies of course). Expect pictures sometime next week, why? BECAUSE MY DIGITAL CAMERA BROKED !!!! That’s right it’s dead. Dammit, so now I’m back to using film. Which is fine for quality, but timing is tough. Cause the meals and pictures will be about a week apart !!!!!!!!! Gargh.

FRESH BREAD !!

Hey don’t that look FINE? There’s fresh home made bread, and not with a bread machine either. Oh man it was good. Okay well it still is.

Carrot Leavenings

Here are a load of carrot leavenings, what’s left after you juice a few carrots. Not only was the juice good, but the garden benefits as well. The Juice Love Circle of Health.

Chops N Taters

Okay, so it is a simple meal and damn tasty. The reason I posted this is because THOSE ARE OUR OWN POTATOES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. That’s right, they popped right out of the ground the other day. I don’t remember what kind they are exactly, but I’ve never had such a creamy tater. Absolutely amazing! Oh and the chops were damn fine as well.

Meat Attack in Iowa!

You gotta check this out. Meatmeisters Abound.
Guthrie Center, Iowa. About 50 miles west of Des Moines. 1700 folks live here.
This is last week, banking type party at some big wigs pad.
They cook it up in the garbage can! Two cinder blocks with charcoal under going hot.
Then they put in some water and start layering in the meat and veggies.
All kinds o meat, carrots, onions everything goes in there. Few hours later
they git to eatin it. Check out that huge tray o brats. Those wide body
midwesterners peering into the cauldron to see what is next. This
is real cookin. Brats on top it looks like. They use the same
garbage cans over and over, like a ritual of some sort.

July’s Roasted Chicken

Here we see a Rosie organic chicken split and set atop a bed of baby bok choy, carrots, onions, celery and whole mushrooms. The chicken was rubbed down with extra virgin olive oil, kosher salt, fresh ground black pepper, cayenne, oregano and some crushed celery seed. The liquid was a bit of organic chicken broth, port wine, plumb wine and a tad of water. Then roasted in a 375 degree oven for an hour with foil over the roaster, then 30 minutes without the foil. Deelightful.

popeye scares me

It’s been one of those days. You know the ones. A few hours longer than you expected, a co-worker shows up with homemade iced coffees that have enough cafeine in them to kill a moose (you have two), the chinese lunch repeats for maybe six hours worth of nasty garlic filled grease. Yeah, that’s the day. So what is the last thing you wish to do? Cook dinner, let alone eat dinner. But the kids are hungry and the wife is expecting something tasty. My solution? Fast food. What kind? Well, it’s hot, it’s july, the obvious choice is FRIED CHICKEN! In this part of the country, Popeye’s is really the only choice for edible fried chicken. So there it sits, in the oven keeping warm. Zachary is having a bite and I’m sure M will have a piece. But it scares me. See? Isn’t it scary?

Stale Bread lives in the CRUMB !

Yeah, you know it’s one thing to let a loaf of bread go stale or get moldy. But it is quite another to do the same to a home made loaf. It seems a far higher shame. HA !!! Make crumbs! They good. Use for fried chicken man! Give that old stale bread new life. It’s because you care.

Carrot and Spinach Juice

I’ve debated for several days whether to upload this picture. Not for the obvious either. Sure there is no meat, but I figured I should come clean and let you’all know that I eat other things than meat. One of my latest fads is juicing things. Mostly carrots, celery, apples, tomatoes and ginger. It damn good too. Well, this last week I’ve been adding an entire bunch of spinach to the juice. So far it’s been excellent. But I still don’t think I should have uploaded this one. Why? Cause it just doesn’t LOOK good, not appetizing. Definately not something I could talk you into drinking, that’s fer sure. Bend a close ear here, IT WAS GREAT !!!! Something so good, so tasty and gives you the punch you need to attack an afternoon … it’s great. Go juice.
